Day 6: Falling in Love with Cephalonia — Villages, Myrtos Beach & Melissani Cave

We docked in Argostoli the morning of September 19, 2025, but we didn’t spend much time there. We were immediately bussed off on an 8-hour tour of the island of Cephalonia.

I was absolutely enamored by this island–the people, the scenery, the villages… all of it!

After traveling into the mountains (you should’ve seen the hair pin turns this bus driver was making 🥴), we stopped in the sweetest little village–we got some pastries and coffee then roamed around finding all the sweet little Greek kitties.

While in the first village, the sky got angry and we could hear thunder in the distance… not going to lie, I was a bit worried about rock slides on our way back down! I’ve lived in Colorado for 9 years! I know that heavy rain after a dry season + mountain passes can be scaaaaary. We got caught in the rain at the second village but it ended up clearing up and away we went to the Myrtos beach overlook.

The pictures don’t do it justice. The blue hues of the water and the views from on top of the mountain were just 👌🏻🙌🏻 it was very windy but we were all just so excited that the skies cleared and we were able to stop to see it.

Our last stop was Melissani Cave and it was SO cool to see. This cave/lake was formed over 20,000 years ago. The roof actually caved in which created the hole in the “roof”. You guys this water was SO clear and so magical. It was one of the highlights of our whole trip. We went in a wooden boat after waiting in a hallway in the cave and got to see more of the cave, including the stalactites.

Again, pictures don’t do it justice.

Before we left, I bought my mom an olive oil dispenser and some olive oil at the gift shop. She later said it was the best olive oil she’s ever had! (are we surprised? no.)

We ended the day with dinner, some blackjack at the casino, mini golf and cornhole with our friends Brooke and Rob who we spent a lot of time with on the trip.

This was my fav island we visited in Greece. I hope to be back someday!
