Day 5: Exploring Chania — Monastery, Olive Oil & a Magician’s Tricks
Our first excursion on the cruise was our stop in Chania which is on one of the Greek islands! We visited Arkadi Monastery, which was about a two hour drive up into the mountains. I wish we had gotten more time there because it was beautiful and sacred. But sadly we only got about 15 minutes to roam around.

Our tour guide was Maria. She was such a fun personality and taught us all about olives, olive oil and why the Greeks love it and use it for everything and is such a staple of their livelihood there.
We then drove back down into the old town of Rethymno. We found a tiny little cafe where an old Greek lady made us sandwiches and they were delicious (and also really cheap lol yay Europe). We had about an hour to explore on our own and we ended up getting bamboozled by a lady who “gave” us roses and then demanded euros from us lol.

I’m not sure if it was the early morning or because jet lag finally caught up to me, but I fell asleep on the way back to the boat and then we took a nap when we got back to our room 🤣🥱I remember feeling like I didn’t want to just sleep the time away on our trip but wowza I was tired.
We had a really yummy dinner on the ship with our friends Brooke and Rob and then went to a pub to have some drinks and chat. Before heading back to our room for the night, we went to the headliner magician show. It was really good and I’m still trying to figure out how he did all of his tricks year later 😂
