Croatia in a Day: Castles, Gelato & a Little Drama

Our time in Croatia wasn’t my favorite…

We got on yet another tour bus (which thankfully this one wasn’t too long) and took a tour at Klis Fortress near Split and then drove back into the city for a tour of Diocletian’s Palace. This excursion was something that Jourdan really wanted to do because we got to see a bunch of locations where they shot scenes for Game of Thrones. I don’t watch the show myself but it was a really interesting tour. Unfortunately, our group was really large and if our listening devices got too far away from our tour guide, we couldn’t hear her at all.

We found some local food for lunch with our friends and then I was on a mission to actually get in the ocean since I hadn’t done it yet (which seems really obnoxious after being in the Mediterranean all week). And then I had a near-anxiety attack in the water.

Here’s the thing… we’re in a foreign country, there’s people everywhere and I just wanted to swim in the ocean. But I didn’t want to do it alone and I didn’t want to leave all of our stuff just sitting on the beach with our wallets and clothes there for the taking. I was overstimulated, overtired and honestly not having very much fun that day. This picture is not an accurate depiction of how I felt.

I got in. Got the pic. Got out.

As I was getting dressed, I must not have been using the right facility because a very angry Croatian woman tried barging in while I was stark naked and was yelling at me in another language. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. And where was Jourdan while I was getting screamed at you ask? Chasing a lizard🫠🙄

As we left the beach, a guy on a bike taxi offered us a ride and it honestly sounded really nice. He was super sweet and we talked about American football and the Kansas City Chiefs lol. I wonder if he was a Swiftie?

We meandered around Split, bought our son a Croatian soccer jersey that he wears to this day, ate more gelato and went back to the ship.

While Croatia wasn’t my favorite of the trip, I absolutely want to go back. I’ve seen incredible pictures of different parts of the country and I just think we had some bad luck and honestly after Montenegro the day before, unmet expectations.

By this point in our trip, we were really missing our kiddos at home and super peopled out. We celebrated one last dinner with our amazing server April and clocked out for the night to get ready to leave the ship the next morning.

Come back tomorrow for my recap in VENICE!
