Mykonos in a Day: Beauty, Bougainvillea & a Bit of Chaos

It was so amazing to wake up in Mykonos! This was the only port that we did not have an excursion planned at. We ended up sleeping in a little bit, got ready, had breakfast and went off the ship.

We had to take a water taxi from the Old Port to New Port. We started roaming around and found a folklore museum to look at. It was interesting but all in Greek (all Greek to me lol).

There were at least 3 other large ships in the port that day and the streets were PACKED. We stopped in some jewelry shops and quickly learned that the “evil eye” is very popular over there. I bought a beautiful necklace (one of my favs still a year later) from The Corner Jewelry Market.

We also visited the famous windmills, took some photos and just people watched and looked out at the water for awhile. It hadn’t rained in Mykonos for months so the landscape looked a lot like where we lived in Colorado for 9 years.

We saw some kitties, beautiful bougainvilleas and ate lunch at a cafe right on the water. I had more gyros (not as good as the ones in Athens but still delish).

The streets looked exactly like they do in the movies and I thought Mykonos was wonderful. Because of the amount of people though, it dysregulated my nervous system and I had a tough time that evening. Our trip back on the water taxi was stressful and people’s patience were definitely wearing thin. They were even yelling at each other at one point lol

Once we were back on the ship, we ate dinner, watched the sunset and read for awhile. It was fun watching/listening to Mamma Mia! while we left the port. I’d love to go back someday, but maybe with less people ha!
