Day 2: Finally Athens! God Winks, Gyros, and the Acropolis
After a very long (and stressful lol) travel day, a 3-hour delay and a loooooong customs line, we landed in Athens around 1pm local time on September 15, 2024!

Since our flight was so delayed, we figured we had missed the transfer to our hotel. We tried calling the company a few times and were hung up on so we decided to just Uber it (Athens taxis run on Uber, who knew?). As we were walking to a different door, I saw a guy holding a sign with the same company logo that we had a transfer with and I was going to ask him if there was any way to have someone come back for us. As I got closer, I realized the sign said our name! It was the perfect God wink.

We checked into the Royal Olympic hotel (beautiful spot, great location), we cleaned up a bit and went to find some food. And omg 🤤 I had the best meal of my life at a little place called Smile Gastropub (you must go if you’re in Athens). We shared the bruschetta and I got the pork gyros, Jourdan got the beef risotto. It was all incredible.

We visited the Acropolis and spent over an hour wandering around in awe of what we were seeing! The weather was absolutely perfect with a steady breeze and the view from up there was something I will NEVER forget. And also… so many cats 😻

As I relive this day through all the pictures and videos, I just feel really proud of the fact that I got to take my history-teacher-husband all the way to the Acropolis so he could see such a historic spot with his own two eyes.
